And while no one expects a dramatic housing market crash, many experts now see the market shifting more toward balance, which benefits buyers.<\/p>\n<p>Whatever the economic state of the real estate market, buying a house can be an exciting and emotional process. Before starting your search, be sure you understand the ins and outs of homebuying, so you can make the best decisions for your family \u2014 and your wallet. Check your credit score<\/h3>\n<p>Your credit score will help determine your financing options; lenders use it (among other factors) to set the terms and rates of your loan. The higher your score, the better \u2014 lower credit scores equate to more expensive mortgages.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Get started:<\/strong> You can get your credit report and score from each of the three major credit reporting agencies, Equifax, Experian and TransUnion, for free once a year.
