Princess Kate Middleton joined her husband, Prince William, at the Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance on Saturday, November 9.

Kate, 42, dressed up in a fitted black coat dress, adorned with gold buttons, and a poppy pin affixed to her lapel. She completed her look with a delicate pearl necklace, a pair of pearl drop earrings and a quilted black clutch.

For glam, the Princess of Wales wore her hair down in loose waves that cascaded over one shoulder.

Remembrance is celebrated each November in the U.K. to remember military veterans who served the Commonwealth. To show their support, many residents wear poppy pins on their lapels.

Kate was pictured entering London’s Royal Albert Hall on Saturday alongside 42-year-old William, who sported a crisp blue suit and his recently scruffy beard.

William had debuted his new facial hair look this summer, which initially displeased 9-year-old daughter Princess Charlotte.

“Charlotte didn’t like it the first time,” he told reporters at his Earthshot Prize Awards in South Africa earlier this week. “I got floods of tears, so I [had] to shave it off. And then I grew it back. I thought, ‘Hang on a second,’ and I convinced her it was going to be OK.”

William attended the awards ceremony solo, while Kate stayed back in the U.K. with their children. In addition to Charlotte, the couple share sons Prince George, 11, and Prince Louis, 6.

Kate also recently completed a round of chemotherapy, and Saturday’s event marked her first major appearance since her treatment. She was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer earlier this year, canceling all public-facing engagements to undergo chemotherapy.

“As the summer comes to an end, I cannot tell you what a relief it is to have finally completed my chemotherapy treatment,” Kate said in a September video statement. “The last nine months have been incredibly tough for us as a family. Life as you know it can change in an instant and we have had to find a way to navigate the stormy waters and road unknown.”

She continued, “With humility, it also brings you face to face with your own vulnerabilities in a way you have never considered before, and with that, a new perspective on everything. This time has above all reminded William and me to reflect and be grateful for the simple yet important things in life, which so many of us often take for granted. Of simply loving and being loved.”
